Hand hygiene is believed to be effective against gastrointestinal infections, as well as against respiratory tract infections (in a lower capacity). In a study with a kind of meta-analysis (collecting a variety of research and process) found evidence to support this. From these studies, improvements in hand hygiene resulted in a decrease in gastrointestinal illness in the community by 31%. In the case of respiratory tract infections, obtained a decrease of 21%.
